In A Zephyr Heights Mystery, you take control of two of the Mane Six starting with Sunny Starscout and Hitch Trailblazer from the previous game, MY LITTLE PONY: A Maretime Bay Adventure. Like in Unravel Two, the gameplay involves exploration and puzzle-solving, albeit not as challenging.

The gameplay focuses on light exploration and puzzle-solving with linearly sequenced levels, being a platformer. This means you must explore a specific area first before proceeding to the next. Your journey begins with only Sunny Starscout and Hitch Trailblazer, and as you complete tasks in each level, you can unlock the rest as playable characters. Each possesses unique magical abilities that can go a long way.
The side quests and mini games are fun and involve taking photos, delivering smoothies, and building a bridge. Collectibles include colored gems as powerups, along with Star Bits for buying accessories. Aside from the single-player mode, you can also immerse in the magical experience with family and friends in the co-op mode. While the game guarantees fun-filled adventures for kids, it is barely replayable, considering the repetitive tasks.
